Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment in Carlsbad, California
The majority of people who enter addiction treatment are also managing at least one co-occurring mental health condition — and yet most treatment programs still address the two separately, treating substance use in one program and mental health in another, at different times, with different providers. At Worthy Wellness Center in Carlsbad, our dual diagnosis treatment program integrates both within a single clinical framework, treating them simultaneously because that is how they actually present in the brain and body.
Dual diagnosis — also called co-occurring disorders — describes the presence of both a substance use disorder and one or more mental health conditions in the same person. Common combinations include alcohol addiction with depression, opioid dependence with PTSD, stimulant use with anxiety, and benzo addiction with trauma. In many cases, clients arrive without knowing that a mental health condition is part of the picture — it has simply been masked or amplified by substance use for so long that the two are indistinguishable on the surface.
Our dual diagnosis approach starts with a comprehensive clinical assessment — including neuropsychological testing and genetic testing — that surfaces both dimensions of the presentation before treatment begins, so that the plan we build reflects the full clinical picture from day one.
Dual Diagnosis Treatment for Adults in San Diego County
Who We Serve
Our dual diagnosis program serves adults managing substance use disorders alongside mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma, Borderline Personality Disorder, and bipolar disorder. We serve both women and men with gender-specific programming and offer LGBTQ-affirming care across all programs.
Many of our dual diagnosis clients have been through treatment before — sometimes multiple times — without sustained success. In most cases, that is because one dimension of the presentation was treated while the other was not. Addressing anxiety without addressing the substance use that was managing it, or treating addiction without addressing the trauma that drove it, produces incomplete and fragile outcomes. Our integrated model closes that gap.
Advanced Modalities for Dual Diagnosis Treatment in San Diego
Beyond core therapies, our dual diagnosis program offers access to advanced treatment modalities that address the neurological and physiological dimensions of co-occurring disorders. Vagus nerve stimulation supports nervous system regulation and has demonstrated clinical value in both depression and opioid recovery. TMS therapy provides a non-invasive option for clients with treatment-resistant depression. Affect regulation and polyvagal-informed therapy build the neurological capacity for emotional regulation that dual diagnosis clients most commonly lack.
Holistic programming runs in parallel throughout all levels of dual diagnosis care. Yoga, mindfulness, breathwork, meditation, nutritional counseling, fitness programming, and equine therapy address the physical and relational dimensions of recovery alongside the clinical. Our pet-friendly environment and daily outdoor activities extend that holistic approach into every part of the day — not just scheduled programming hours.
Family therapy sessions and educational workshops for loved ones are integrated into the dual diagnosis program. The people closest to a client with co-occurring disorders have typically been living with the impact of both conditions for years — and their understanding of what treatment requires, and what recovery looks like, is part of the clinical picture that needs to be addressed for lasting outcomes.

Worthy is optimally located, staffed and designed for an incredible early recovery experience. The techs, therapists and admissions coordinator are wonderful people who care deeply about quality client experiences. I had the opportunity to interview the CEO, Samantha, and I was incredibly moved by her personal story and her dedication to her clients. The curriculum includes classes for learning emotional regulation tools, building self esteem, cultivating professional skills and more. If you or a loved one is struggling with mental health or SUD, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the staff at Worthy.

I had a really good experience at this treatment center. I came in struggling with PTSD, and the staff were kind, supportive, and always made me feel heard. They worked hard to meet my needs and helped connect me with outside services when needed. I never felt ignored or overlooked. The staff truly cared and went out of their way to help whenever I needed it. The small group setting made it easier to feel comfortable, and the weekend outings were one of the best parts. The food was good, and the environment felt safe and welcoming. This program helped me build a strong foundation and gave me the tools to handle everyday challenges. I’m very grateful for the care and support I received and feel more prepared to live life on life’s terms. difficult time much easier for our family. The team was always willing to answer questions. Worthy Wellness has done a terrific job of treating my clients for a variety of addictions. Holly is smart and amazing at helping with intake and transition. The staff is compassionate and insightful, and they make everyone feel welcome. Their dual diagnosis program is uniquely effective. The facilities are beautiful and well maintained. They coordinate and communicate well with the courts, which prevents problems on the legal side.
I recommend this center very highly, and send them any of my clients that need rehabilitation.

They provide gender-specific treatment and offer a full continuum of care, including PHP, IOP, and virtual services. Their client-centered approach and genuine care make them a trusted partner, and I feel confident referring clients to Worthy Wellness.

Worthy Wellness Center is the best! The entire staff is caring and only wants the best for their clients. Holly works very hard to make sure the intakes are taken care of and their CEO is the best, making sure her staff provides the best care for their clients. Their facility is really clean as well and I loved their housing. Looking forward to the other improvements they make to their company.
